2017 Theme and news

February 24, 2017 7:49 pm

Well hello……………

Spring is well and truly in our sights and we are delighted with the current ticket sales which are vastly up on this point last year. Thank you for purchasing your tickets for our 10th anniversary and supporting the festival in what is guaranteed to be another sell out success.

Bearded Theory
This year’s theme on the Sunday is MOBSTERS & LOBSTERS. This means sea creatures and bearded mafia. We can’t wait to see your creations on the Sunday and we will be picking winners for best dressed and best imagination during this year’s World Record Attempt.

We have over 200 acts and DJ`s, spread over 7 amazing and unique stages this year. We have secured and already announced what is our strongest and most expensive line up to date. MADNESS, SLAVES, SKUNK ANANSIE, SEASICK STEVE, THE FALL, CAST, REVEREND AND THE MAKERS, VINTAGE TROUBLE, NEW MODEL ARMY, ALABAMA 3, FOY VANCE and countless others bolt down this year’s Pallet and Woodland stages. SYSTEM 7, CJ BOLLAND, TRANSGLOBAL UNDERGROUND and a MEGADOG SOUND-SYSTEM takeover are some of the amazing DJ`s and performers being showcased in the Magical Sounds arena. The up and coming and festival legends takeover Convoy Cabaret with acts like SPORADICS, CHINA SHOP BULL, BACK TO THE PLANET and RATBAG. Maui Waui bring some funk, jazz and fiddling with AFTER HOURS QUINTET, DUB ORCHESTRA and SEAS OF MIRTH. Then we have the Something Else Tea Tent programming performers such as FOLK THE SYSTEM and plenty more to be announced. The Party Rogues Hideout bring the average age down quite a bit and we are delighted to have with us a variety of MCs, DJ`s and new bands about to break being showcased in their bigger and better marquee.

The Thursday on the Pallet repeats the original 2008 line up as part of the 10-year anniversary celebrations but this time with DREADZONE headlining instead of the 2008 sound-system and the legendary DON LETTS will be leading a DJ line up on the Woodland on the same night.

What have we been up to?
The festival will be hosted within the beautiful grounds of Catton Hall and the stunning woodland clearing. The Woodland walk has an urban street food theme and the entry to the Woodland will be set back allowing for toilets to be accessed by attendees watching bands on the stage without the risk of being locked out due to the queues. Another set of toilets will be located near to the Convoy Cabaret stage. We have added in a new venue, The Ship which is located next to Convoy Cabaret and will cater for your late-night disco moves. This will also create a naughty corner if you consider the 3am closing Magical Sounds too early (we don’t do headphone disco parties, just music played as it should be). We have secured a new 8-acre family camping field following last year’s feedback and there will be plenty of room for you to spread out in the campsites this year. We will have stewards on hand showing you to available camping spaces if you can’t find any (always go into the middle, everyone forgets about the middle!). We have added a new real ale bar by Convoy Cabaret and The Ship and the Woodland will be holding a Real Ale and Cider festival for the entirety of the festival. In addition to the fantastic award-winning ales from Thornbridge, we have 50 ales and ciders on rotation in the Woodland addressing last year’s gripes about the selection not being good enough in the Woodland area. The legendary and free to use Children’s Village makes an explosive return following their festival Oscars win in 2016. We have detailed below more details on what’s happening in the Children’s area further down for you to relay to your little ones.
