Carter USM’s headlining performance at Bearded Theory Festival will be the band’s last ever festival performance.

Jim Bob told Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music: “We were asked to do Bearded Theory in May and once we were doing that we were semi-ready for another gig.  But we want to stop while it’s really goo – like Fawlty Towers!”

After Bearded Theory, the band will play only one final farewell show, in November at Brixton Academy.

Carter USM had six top thirty albums (four of which went top ten) and fourteen top forty hits from 1987-1997. After a ten year break they reformed for two shows in 2007 at Brixton Academy and Glasgow Barrowlands. Both shows sold out and the Brixton show sold all five thousand tickets in a few days.

They returned in 2008 for further sell out shows at Birmingham and Brixton Academy then 2009 saw ‘The Drum Machine Years’ where they played their first four albums at the sold-out Kentish Town Forum and Brixton 02 Academy.

In 2011 they sold out a further two shows at Brixton Academy and Manchester Academy and triumphantly rejoined the festival circuit.
