Bearded Theory October Catch Up

October 27, 2013 6:24 pm

Following massive critical acclaim in 2013 Bearded Theory returns on
May 22nd 2014 for 4 days of madness. Since our last newsletter we have
announced The Blockheads who will perform on the Main Stage on Sunday.
Crass frontman Steve Ignorant alongside band Paranoid Visions on
friday. To see who has been announced so far scroll down to the
“Musical Offering” topic. We will be announcing Magical Sounds
line up and the Main Stage headliners very soon.

Festival Awards

We had forgotten to ask people to vote for us in the last newsletter.
So if you don’t mind wasting a couple of minutes of your life,
please vote for us in the UK Festival Awards for Best Family or Best
Grassroots awards. We have been nominated for some others but we
believe these two are the best suited to what we do and would give us
the most pride if we did win. So if you would like to, please vote via
www.festivalawards.com . Voting closes on November 1st so we don’t
have much time.

Catton Hall

With a move away from Kedleston Hall in order to loosen the shackles
allowing boundaries to be pushed in the terms of creativity we are
delighted to be relocating down the A38 to Walton on Trent in
Derbyshire. While the capacity will remain the same as 2013 the
overall site is much larger which excitingly incorporates a wood which
will be transformed into life as a late night area hosting music from
gypsy to dance complemented with a campervan bar and seating areas. In
previous years we have been restricted with the capacity of the Live
in Vehicle field, we are now delighted to host the Live in Vehicle
field in a bigger and flatter space called Trent Meadow; a huge 8 acre
flat field with drainage and hard standing road access.

We plan to increase the amount of showers next year and again they
will be free to use, we would like to introduce a free shuttle service
from the car park into the campsites to aid those who bring everything
bar the kitchen sink. We have included Thursday camping and
entertainment into the price of all tickets allowing us to charge £2
less on Adult Tickets for the same amount of days in 2013. Reacting to
the feedback in 2013 we have made the price of a family ticket better
value. The bars will again be operated by award winning local brewery
Thornbridge from Bakewell, the Children’s Village will again be ran
by Angel Gardens & Derbyshire based Heage Holiday Club, Tornado Town
is back, Madame Gail’s infamous Something Else Tea Tent returns for
their 7th year, Magical Sounds will be back with their most ambitious
line up to date and the Main Stage will also be back with its biggest
line up in its 7 year history. ory.

We might be moving sites but we know what you like and we will be back
the same as before, hopefully a bit better here and there but with the
same ethic. We want to retain the crowd we attract and love but want
to provide you with the best we can. If you want a trend setting,
chart topping, lager sponsored affair don’t even bother trying us,
you will hate it. For the rest we will welcome you with open arms and
appreciate your support. Get behind us and let’s make Catton Hall
our home and 2014 the best Bearded Theory to date.

The transport links are great and it’s a beautiful site, perfect
for a festival like Bearded Theory. The amount of space, for example,
the wooded areas, will mean that we can introduce all sorts of new
stages and attractions to make Bearded Theory better than ever, while
retaining the family-friendly, relaxed character that people know and
love us for.

Musical Showcase

Our line-up has started to take shape with some fantastic additions
to the Main Stage and Tornado Town. For the Main Stage on Friday we

his band The Light, The Crass frontman Steve Ignorant alongside

the Main Stage on Saturday along with ska-rockers Karma Party and folk
rockers True Deceivers. Sunday on the Main Stage will host The
Blockheads, US ska fusion band Fishbone, Bearded mascots 3 Daft
Monkeys, Tarantism and Colm Gray.

Blog
We have started writing a blog about the organising of Bearded Theory
so you can see what we get up to. Due to our move to Catton Hall it
includes the details of applying for our new premises license along
with band bookings and deliberating on how many toilets to order. It
will be written by a few members of the organising team so you can see
how boring we really are. Please go to www.beardedtheory.com/blog

If you would like to get involved in helping us put on next year’s
festival please get in touch and email info@beardedtheory.co.uk

Unsigned Bands Competition

Bearded Theory Festival is underlining its commitment to the best new
music by offering a unique chance for unsigned bands to appear at the
2014 event.

What’s more, fans will be able to choose which acts are selected to
appear at the festival, which takes place from May 22-25 in a striking
new location, Catton Hall in South Derbyshire. The Bearded
Breakthrough competition will be run through the festival’s Facebook
page facebook.com/beardedtheoryfestival (
https://facebook.com/beardedtheoryfestival ) and there will be two
winners – one will play on the Main Stage and the other will play on
our second stage, Tornado Town.

Throughout the history of Bearded Theory we’ve taken pride in
mixing great name acts with the best in new and up-and-coming acts,
and in letting our festival goers have their say in who appears. For
2014, we’re offering unsigned acts the prospect of exposure before a
great audience, with slots on our two biggest stages. For more details
follow the Bearded Theory Facebook page or watch out for news articles
about this on the website.

Charities 2014

In 2014 we will be actively and financially supporting Console a
suicide prevention charity and Neuro Care. Both charities have a
significant importance to the organisers and friends of Bearded
Theory.
