Bearded Theory 2013 Line up Announcement

October 25, 2012 7:52 pm

We are pleased to announce the first batch of bands that will be performing at the 2013 festival.

Fridays Main Stage will be headlined by Sheffield’s Reverend and the Makers who have taken the charts by storm and are well known for their brilliant live performance. Following this year’s success with Cara Dillon we have secured the amazing talent of Scottish folk singer Karine Polwart. Derby’s very own indie chart toppers the Beekeepers playing a rare show and fellow locals Life & Times of Brothers Hogg will be opening the stage. We have two more excellent bands being released in December to conclude the Friday Main Stage happenings.

Saturday’s billing is topped by Asian Dub Foundation, one of the most inspiring and innovative acts this country has ever produced. Joining them on bill is celebrated folk singer Seth Lakeman, reggae legend Macka B & his band band, classic rockers Quireboys, heavily requested punksters Citizen Fish, up & coming folk band AHAB and BT favourites Zombie Met Girl will be opening the stage. We have one more band to announce to complete the Saturday billing.

It will come as no great surprise to announce that the Levellers will be headlining Bearded Theory after their late cancellation this year due to a fiddler’s finger injury. The Levellers will close the festival in style on the Sunday night and will be joined Liverpudlians The Farm who will be performing a greatest hits set, BT favourites Goldblade, acclaimed folk rock band Ezio, the heavily requested New Groove Formation. We have three final bands to be announced in December to conclude Sunday’s festivities.

Tornado Town have already released a good chunk of their line up already and the latest additions are Far Cue who undoubtedly one of the best punk bands ever, Pussycat & Dirty Johnsons a southern adrenaline filled rocknroll band and 18 Nightmares at the Lux who are another one to watch.

Magical Sounds will be pumping out the heavy beats for the 6th Bearded Theory and have produced another stunning line up in their now famous big top. Magical Sounds will be releasing their acts over the next few weeks.

BT Tweaks

We are tweaking the festival to make it better and will be introducing some new attractions next year. We have created a new area in the campsite which will house a new cabaret tent which will show case bizarre acts, stand-up comedy, competitions and provide a circus show. The tent will be a late night venue and have comedians on until the early hours.

The Water’s Edge Stage is being replaced with a better stage, PA system and re-housed to somewhere else (we haven’t thought of that bit yet). It will continue to play host to acoustic and protests acts which are yet to be booked.

The family camping area is also having a small makeover with a little playground area surrounded by picnic tables. We thought this would be a good place to have your family dinners and let the children play if they eat quicker than there mums and dads.

A huge effort is going into improving the site visually and we have sourced a number of art collectives from all over Derbyshire to come and create various areas, gardens and add a bit more weird stuff everywhere.

Fesival Awards

We have been nominated in three categories at this year’s Festival Awards, Best Small Festival, Best Family Festival and the Grass Roots Festival Award. If you feel we are deserving in any of those categories please voted for us via www.festivalawards.com/vote and we will be eternally grateful! Voting is live now and will run until 31 October 2012.

We have been shortlisted for the Best Independent Festival Award at the prestigious AIM Music Awards in London. This is the award we won last year and we are keeping our fingers crossed that we can retain the trophy.
